A Northwest Oasis

I oohhed and aaahhhed over this house today! It sits on Camano Island in a fun part of town called Utsalady (fun word!). The great part about Camano Island is it's still connected to land so you don't have to take a ferry to get to it and it's not too far north from Seattle (maybe 60 minutes without traffic) and even closer to Vancouver B.C. which is another favorite city of mine. I always tell my husband I want to retire on an island and we've kept this as an option as it has a quieter pace (i.e. no traffic), great artist community, and it has that "small town" vibe to it I so love!!

This waterfront home has interesting exterior detail with the shingles, pergola, and beams. The exterior color also gives us a visual clue of what we'll see inside.

Several things I love about this entry. First of all the floor is beautiful and the walls have texture and interest with the beadboard. The front door is also a favorite of mine!

The owner kept things subtle and warm with variations of chocolate brown and latte colored paint. Anything that reminds me of chocolate or coffee is good =)

The ceiling was painted as well with a light tan color which shows off the crown molding and square columns.

The owner went with a little darker tan in the kitchen and you see pops of the color red here and there throughout the house.

This looks like a guest room and I would love to be a guest here! I love the salmon colored walls (again with the food) and the cozy quilt on the bed. And of course, the view is being taken advantage by nearly every room.

My favorite room of the house is the spectacular library! I love the over-sized round windows letting in all that natural light.

This bedroom reminds me of a high end hotel!

I believe the window must be on the other side of the library. Clever!

A simple bathroom but tastefully done.

Wouldn't you love to have your office here?

Great space for movies and hanging out with the family!!

I love the slate tiled floor and all the variations of the colors black, brown, carmel, and grey in the slate.

I like the simple backyard where you all you do is relax and focus on the amazing view!

Interesting entrance to the property. I'm assuming the owners have an RV with the tall garage doors. I also like the pergola over the garage doors (on the side).

A perfect view of Mt. Baker.

House Snob

I was going to use this home as an example of cute and "affordable" but then I realized the selling price is $641,240. Definitely not affordable for most of us but its in an upscale neighborhood which partially explains the price and it is really cute! This seller took their design cue from Pottery Barn and you can't go wrong with that transitional style (particularly in this market) as it appeals to most people.

Classic Home

This landmark home is for sale in the beautiful part of Seattle known as Magnolia. You don't typically see classic styling like this in Seattle very often but as I grew up in Connecticut, I appreciate it!

Rich Colors

I've been told that I gravitate towards the more saturated colors and I'd have to agree. There's just something "cozy" and "comforting" with the darker, richer colors. This house is something I instantly loved the moment I saw it on Windermere Real Estate. Even though it's not nearby, it's in a southeastern Washington town that's really growing especially with their vineyards (besides the sweet onion of course).

This is a perfect example of great "curb appeal".

I love the extended porch and the pergola as it adds architectural elements to the home.

The foyer. I was surprised they went with tiled floors but considering Walla Walla can get really hot in the summers, this is probably a wise choice.

Very dramatic dining room! I would think it's a little too dark but the windows really lighten up the space.

LOVE the grey-blue colored walls! They go perfectly with the rich, chocolate browns, carmels, and rusty orange couch (love the couch!!!) My only dislike is the artwork above the mantel. I'm not sure if this house was staged or not but the personal knick-knack board is distracting. It needs a mirror or better yet...this.

Gorgeous kitchen with the painted wood cabinets and stained wood island! The grey-blue walls continue in this space and extra thought was put into the kitchen back splash with the tumbled marble tiles.

A very feminine master bedroom that overlooks the backyard.

The master bathroom continues with the feminine theme, but I still like it, especially the contemporary clawfoot tub.

I've never seen this done before but the shutters go 3/4 up the window. Definitely different but it works!

Perfect example of how you can take simple subway tile and dress it up!

The guest bedroom has lighter colors on the walls which is nice to visually break up the richer colors used elsewhere in the home.

Very cute little girl's room!

The backyard isn't so large (total lot size is only 10,571 feet) but they took great advantage of the space and used it well for entertaining.

Do I spy two garbage cans used as planters? Cool!
